  • IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DONALDSON AT THE DRINKTEC 2009

Innovative filtration solutions for maximum process reliability and cost-effectiveness will be presented by Donaldson at the drinktec 2009 in Munich, hall A4, stand 430. The main focus is on the latest developments in liquid, gas and steam filtration as well as coolant recooling.

Liquid filter elements of the Donaldson Ultrafilter brand provide excellent flow rates, long filter life and thus minimise the operating costs. Ranging from the purification of highly viscous sugar solutions or the sterile filtration of ready-to-consume beverages up to sterile filters for aseptic tank ventilation and high purity compressed air applications, Donaldson offers cost-efficient and reliable solutions from a single source and is therefore an ideal partner for the beverage and beverage supplying industry.

Sterile filters for increased safety

The new sterile process filters range P-SRF N utilises a new filter media, which distinguishes itself by the high retention level of contaminants such as bacteria, mould, spores, phages and viruses. For bacteria (0,2 µm – 0,3 µm) the retention level is in the range of 10exp7/cm2, for phages even 100 times higher (LRV > 9/cm2). These retention rates ensure highest safety for all aseptic process applications of compressed air and technical gases.

Based on the new media the P-SRF N range also stands out due to the high thermal resistance up to 200°C. This also makes the new element suitable for sterilization procedures including Hydrogen Peroxide (VPHP = Vapour Phase Hydrogen Peroxide).

In comparison tests, service lives of up to 50 % above the previous series were measured. The novel hydrophobic coating contributes significantly to this, which minimises the drying time of wet elements. This is of particular importance in operations where filters are steam-sterilised and subsequent blow drying leads to extreme mechanical loads.

Membrane filters: High flow rates and long filter life

From the product portfolio for liquid filtration, Donaldson will among others show the new series (P)-PF-PES “W” which is specifically aimed at the use in the mineral water and soft drink industry. The filter elements have particularly favourable flow factors and maximum flow rates. The result: The amount of filtered beverage is much better and the service life lasts longer. Alternatively, the user can select smaller and therefore more cost-effective filtration systems.

The asymmetrically structured membrane distinguishes itself by an integrated pre-filter stage, which prevents premature blocking of the membrane, thus guaranteeing long filter life. Concerning the applied membrane, the Polyethersulfon (PES) material was deliberately chosen since it is chemically inert and convinces with low adsorption rates. All filters are suitable for hot water sanitation (up to 90°C) and may be sterilized more than 100 times (121°C). Standard chemicals can also be used for disinfection or regeneration of the filters.

Water chillers in stainless steel

Ultracool water chillers with a precise temperature and process control, provide high-precision coolant recooling for example in the liquid food technology, so that the required cooling and process water always has a constant temperature. Since the machines do not discharge the heat in the process water via fans, but transfer it via a second water circulation, they operate completely independent from the ambient temperature. The Ultracool series is available for nominal cooling capacities from 1 kW to 500 kW. The Ultracool will be shown in a stainless steel design for the food and beverage industry.

Filtration solutions from a single source

As a single sourcing partner for the industry, Donaldson also shows filtration solutions for compressed air purification and dust removal - and with its innovative technologies also sets benchmarks in these filtration segments. The newly developed energy-efficient Ultra-Filter compressed air filters, validated according to ISO 12500-1, with the innovative filter medium Synteq XP and the flow-optimised cyclone separator series will also be presented as well as the new PowerCore® dust collection technology, which is of special significance for the food industry due to its compact design and easy filter replacement. The portfolio is rounded off by a comprehensive service that assumes the responsibility for the proper function of the filtration and treatment solutions.
