The German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) and the Ecological Institute have conducted a study on the mid-term future of the German bioenergy market. This study amongst others includes the development of biogas. Due to the amendment of the Renewable Energies Act (EEG), continuous growth is anticipated in the biogas sector. A capacity of 3635 megawatts will be installed by 2010. Of these, about one third will be conveyed into the natural gas network.
The filtration specialist Donaldson is meeting this challenge with an emphasis on biogas drying. Based on the DVGW rules and regulations, biogas drying is an important element for the gas cleaning process and is necessary to prevent corrosion in system components and pipes.
Donaldson is proving its expertise at the ENTSORGA-ENTECO in hall 7.1, stand H61, and provides information of an innovative dryer concept as part of the biogas treatment, which is based on the experiences in the treatment of industrial gases. Adsorption dryers with pressure dewpoints of up to - 50°C and volume flows from 150 to 6,000 m³/h are available to Donaldson for the biogas drying of the natural gas substitution.
In practice, it appears that standard dryers are frequently only second or third best solutions for specific applications. This particularly applies for applications in which large gas volumes must be treated: A "customized" system is in most cases more economical. Finally, the spectrum of use of standard dryers of any type also rapidly encounters limits, if the dryers must be directly included in the process control.
Engineering helps in saving energy
Even for systems from 5,000 m3/h upward, it is worthwhile to use the engineering of Donaldson dryer systems to find an individual solution that is tailored to coordinate the operating parameters. The Engineering of Donaldson in Haan/Rhineland has a long-time experience with the treatment of industrial gases, such as nitrogen, inert gas, carbon dioxide, natural gas and hydrogen that can be transferred to the biogas treatment when treating. A competent and comprehensive service guarantees the installation and maintenance of these sophisticated systems even beyond the borders of Germany.
