FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DONALDSON MEMBRANES EXPERTISE ENSURES PRESTIGIOUS CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH HEIDELBERG CEMENT
Donaldson Membranes Tetratex ePTFE filter media supplied to the Heidelberg Cement plant at Lixhe in Belgium has proven to be such a success that the contract for replacement of media for the kiln filterbags has again been awarded to Donaldson Membranes, through its partner TTL France, a filterbag manufacturer and service provider.
Mark Rigby, Director of Donaldson Membranes said: "We are delighted to have won this contract again. The excellent results and performance achieved by our filter media originally supplied at Lixhe have enabled us to renew this prestigious contract against severe competition. We look forward to working with Heidelberg Cement in its ongoing projects to increase production and meet environmental requirements."
Heidelberg Cement, a world leader in the production of cement, concrete and building materials, asked Donaldson Membranes for a filtration solution during modernisation works which involved shutting down the wet process kiln at its Lixhe plant and carrying out an overhaul of the dry process production line.
Previously, kiln exhaust gases and part of the cooler exhaust gases which were used to dry raw materials, were de-dusted by an electrostatic precipitator. This electrofilter was inadequate to handle the increased gas flow and was unable to meet the regulatory dust emission requirements.
Two new fabric filters, manufactured by Redecam, were installed and the filter bag media selected was Donaldson Membranes Tetratex # 6255 woven glass fabric.
The fabric filters house 7680 filter bags, each 4500mm long x 145mm diameter, giving a filter surface area of 15,730 m2. Gas flow is a nominal 650,000 Nm3/hr and operating temperature is 110oc allowing for peaks up to 260oc. Before the overhaul the dry process production line had a capacity of 3400 tons of clinker per day. Today the kiln is generally operating at a capacity of between 4400 and 4600 tons per day.
Bernard Boulange, Project Director at Heidelberg Cement, has commented:" Our choice of bag filter technology was based on the excellent performance of the bag filter installed at our Antoing kiln which produced low emissions, no sensitivity to CO peaks or modifications to process conditions. In short, the new bag filter is a success and has provided a dramatic reduction in dust emissions and lifetime guarantees of the filter bags have been maintained."
