DONALDSON MEMBRANES AND FILTERTEKS HELP TO INCREASE PRODUCTION AT TURKISH CALCITE PLANT
Donaldson Membranes has being working in close partnership with Turkish filterbag manufacturer Filterteks to help find a filtration solution for micronised calcite production plant, Anadolu Mikronize Mining Co.
Anadolu Mikronize Mining Co. established in 2004 is located in Nigde, Turkey, and produces micronised calcite with an annual target capacity of 250,000 tons.
Previously the filterbags being used were made from conventional Polyester and were needing to be replaced every 15 to 30 days, causing slow production at the plant and excessive costs. Anadolu contacted Filterteks, enquiring if they could recommend an alternative filter media to reduce the replacement frequency.
The particule size of Anadolu micronised Calcite (Calcium Carbonate), which can be used in cements and mortars, steel and glass industries, is mainly sub-micron meaning a great deal of demand is placed on conventional filter media often leading to the particulate plugging the fabric, restricting airflow and milling capacity.
On consultation, Donaldson Membranes advised Filterteks to use Tetratex #6214 Polyester needlefelt fabric to solve this problem. Tetratex is a surface filtration ePTFE membrane; it acts as a primary dust cake requiring no pre-coat before operation. By limiting fine particulate penetration, Tetratex helps to preserve substrate integrity, whilst maintaining optimum airflow at a reduced pressure drop.
Since the installation of the Tetratex #6214 Polyester needlefelt fabric, daily production at the plant has increased considerably and the level of emissions released into the atmosphere are now maintained well within legal requirements.
Production manager, Mr Metin Islek commeted: “Since the new filterbags have been installed we have seen great results; reduced downtime and increased production. We are grateful that Filterteks and Donaldson Membranes have been able to provide us with a solution to the problem”.
