FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FINDING A FILTRATION SOLUTION.

When NUH Cimento Sanayi A.S was having to replace the filterbags in its Cement Mill filter at their Kocaeli plant on a monthly basis they contacted Filterteks and subsequently Donaldson Membranes to help them to find a solution to this ongoing problem.

NUH Cimento Sanayi is located in the West of Turkey and is one of the largest cement plants in Turkey with an annual production capacity of 4.400.000 tones/year clinker and 5.816.940 tones/year cement.

Analysis of the conventional filter bags being used at that time revealed the deep penetration of fine particulate into the structure of the polyester needlefelt. This premature blinding of the media limited airflow and milling capacity and an alternative solution was required.

The presence of moisture in the filtration process can lead to hydrolysis of the polyester filter media. Homopolymer acrylic fibres display a significantly higher resistance to hydrolysis and in order to provide comparative performance data the filter was installed with a mixture of filterbags manufactured from Tetratex Release #5102 Polyester needlefelt fabric and Tetratex Release #5135 Acrylic needlefelt.

Tetratex Release is a surface filtration ePTFE membrane; it acts as a primary dust cake requiring no pre-coat before operation. By limiting fine particulate penetration, Tetratex Release helps to preserve substrate integrity, whilst maintaining optimum airflow at a reduced pressure drop.

The filterbags, 73 made out of the Tetratex Release #5102 Polyester needlefelt fabric and 73 made out of the Tetratex Release #5135 Acrylic needlefelt have been in place for 2 years and since then daily production at the plant has increased considerably and the level of emissions released into the atmosphere are now maintained well within legal requirements.

Production manager, Mr Oguz Aydinc commented: “Since the new filterbags have been installed we have seen great results; reduced downtime and increased production. We are grateful that Filterteks and Donaldson Membranes have been able to provide us with a solution to the problem”.

Contact Donaldson Membranes now if you would like advice on maximising filter efficiencies and reducing energy costs.
